Oris Mens Replica, creator of trusty dive replica watches since the 1950s, has teamed up with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) in a philanthropic effort to support the marine sciences. The Oris El Hierro Diver Replica is a limited edition model, numbered to 2,000 pieces, the sale of which will be used, in part, as a contribution to three scholarships at the Faculty of Marine Sciences at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The design of the replica watch, as well as its name, were inspired by the volcano off the coast El Hierro. A submarine eruption occurred at the volcano in October 2011, incredibly continuing until the early part of the following year. The cone of the volcano now lies just 86 metres below the surface of the water; the scholarships have been created in the efforts to study the volcano and the surrounding ocean.
With a rugged, black DLC case, this Oris Diver Replica is resistant down to 300m. It features a unidirectional bezel and a date window at the 6 o’clock position—and as you might expect from a diving replica watch, the hands and indices are made extra legible with SuperLuminova. It’s powered by the Oris calibre 733, which is based on the Sellita SW 200-1, and offers a 38-hour power reserve.
